Graduation at UA Grantham
Testimonials by Month
Congratulations Graduates
Dear graduates,
On behalf of the entire UA Grantham team, congratulations on your graduation!
Now is the time to celebrate your way! Put on your regalia, gather with family and friends, and toast to the hard work you’ve put in to reach this significant milestone. Take snapshots and send to communications@uagrantham.edu so that we can include them on this page.
At UA Grantham we celebrate graduation every month by highlighting your stories in your own words – there’s no better way to highlight your achievement.
Thank you for letting us be part of your education journey.
Celebrate Your Way
UA Grantham does not have a traditional university campus; we also approach graduation differently. In years past, the university held traditional graduation ceremonies, yet we found that only a small number of graduates were actually able to attend.
Today, our graduation experience – like our online classes – is delivered completely online: Every month we invite soon-to-graduate students to share their stories with our community. We then publish these stories on our web site and in social media. While the absence of a traditional ceremony might feel unusual to some, we believe our online graduation experience better reflects our commitment to a more inclusive education experience.
And so we invite every graduate to “celebrate your own way”: put on your regalia, gather with family and friends, and toast to the hard work you’ve put in to reach this significant milestone. While you’re at it, be sure to capture the moment with lots of pictures – especially ones with your diploma or cap and gown. Then, send them our way of share on social media with the hashtag #UAGranthamGrad; that way all of UA Grantham can celebrate your achievement.

Achieving my engineering degree fulfills a lifelong dream. As a dedicated father, I strive to set an example for my daughter, demonstrating that perseverance and hard work lead to meaningful success. Balancing a full-time career in the aerospace industry with my academic pursuits presented significant challenges, but the unwavering support of my family was instrumental in my journey. This degree represents not just a personal achievement, but a pathway to professional advancement and an opportunity to inspire my daughter through determination and resilience.Jorge A., BS in Engineering Management Technology
As a retired veteran, pursuing my master's degree at UA Grantham has been a deeply meaningful and affirming journey. The university has gone above and beyond to recognize and build upon the skills, discipline, and real-world leadership that I developed during my military service. From the moment I enrolled, I felt that my experience as a veteran wasn’t just acknowledged—it was respected as a valuable foundation for academic growth. The curriculum was flexible yet rigorous, allowing me to apply my prior knowledge in leadership, strategy, and service while also expanding my understanding through modern theories and practical tools. Instructors often integrated real-life applications that aligned with military values such as accountability, teamwork, and mission-driven thinking. UA Grantham’s commitment to veteran education was evident in the support I received—from Veteran Affairs services to knowledgeable advisors who understood the unique challenges of transitioning from military to academic life. The university offered a structure that honored my time, respected my background, and encouraged me to bring my whole self into the classroom. Thanks to this inclusive and empowering environment, I have not only earned my master’s degree but also grown into a more confident, purpose-driven leader—ready to serve in new and meaningful ways beyond my military career.Mario H., MS in Leadership
As a veteran, leaving the military with little to no civilian education is hard. Especially when your military education and experience doesn’t translate into the “civilian world.” It felt like starting over in a lot of ways, and that was tough. I have come a long way, and I’m proud of how I kept going even when things got hard.Courtney F., AAS in Medical Coding and Billing
Being a father of three while working a full-time, high-demand job isn’t something to take lightly, especially when you have a teenager. When you make the decision to better yourself, to set a lasting example for your children and others, it has to be backed by perseverance and determination. It’s more than just earning a piece of paper. It’s about gaining experiences and knowledge that carry through the rest of your career. What I appreciated about Grantham University was their format, which allowed someone like me, busy and stretched thin, to accomplish this goal. I couldn’t have done it without my family, who pushed me and held me accountable.Jesse G., BBA in Business Administration - Operations Management Concentration
Completing my degree has been a journey filled with personal and academic challenges. As a mom of a young autistic daughter, balancing school, parenting, and mental health struggles wasn’t easy. There were days I wanted to give up—but I reminded myself why I started. My advisor, Nichole, was a steady source of support, and my daughter inspired me every step of the way. I pushed through late nights, self-doubt, and setbacks because I knew this degree was more than a goal—it was a promise to myself and my family that I wouldn’t quit.Desirae T., AAS in Medical Administrative Assistant
Completing my MBA while caring for my mother, who was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis, was one of the hardest times of my life. As the oldest, I became her primary caregiver while managing a team and coursework. I wanted to give up many times, but my family and coworkers kept me going. As a first-generation graduate, this achievement is deeply personal. My immigrant parents gave up everything—and continue to sacrifice—for me and my sister to have a better future. Their strength and support pushed me to succeed. This degree is for them.Irvin T., MBA in Business Administration
Completing this degree was one of the hardest yet most rewarding accomplishments of my life. I balanced coursework while navigating personal hardships. There were moments I wanted to give up, but my desire to build a better future for my child kept me going. Supportive professors and a close friend reminded me of the strength when I doubted myself. This journey taught me that resilience isn't just about surviving, it's about rising every time you fall.Sydney K., Certificate - Medical Administrative Assistant
Earning my AAS in Healthcare Administration was a journey of balancing full-time work and family life. There were many late nights studying after long shifts, and moments I questioned if I could truly do it. My biggest challenge was staying motivated when exhaustion set in. What kept me going were my children and significant other. My family always said, "Every small step forward is progress, no matter how tiny." That advice resonated deeply. It helped me break down overwhelming tasks into manageable pieces and celebrate every quiz passed or assignment completed. Knowing they believed in me made all the difference. Their constant encouragement helped me push through and achieve this huge goal.Shinelle B., AAS in Healthcare Administration
Earning my BBA in General Management marks a major milestone in my life. As a retired Army veteran working in corporate banking, balancing work, school, and life was no easy feat. This journey tested my perseverance, resilience, and time management. There were tough moments, but I stayed focused, fueled by my desire to grow and the encouragement of family and friends who believed in me. Their wisdom and support helped me push through. ChurchillNichole H., BBA in Business Administration - General Management Concentration

Having a full-time job and two kids, it was not easy. At times, I felt overwhelmed, but I knew no matter what, I was never giving in or giving up. I'm the first college graduate of my family, and it is an honor I will cherish forever.Branden N., AS in Computer Science
My Name is Tina Marie I am 39 years young with four children and three grandchildren. I decided to go back to school to show my kids that it is never too late. I had long nights and trying days. With tears in my eyes, I did it. One of my kids is autistic so anyone that knows what that means know that I wanted to give up. However, God had a different plan for me. And I'm glad he did. I want to shout out all my friends for words of encouragements and also my kids to see me as an inspiration Thanks to all the counselors and teachers who nerves I know I worked lol. Last but not least thank you University of Arkansas Grantham for making this dream come true in the comfort of my home.Tina D., AA in Business Administration and Management

I became a young mother and always dreamed of going back to school, but getting my GED felt out of reach. I tried several times but couldn’t do it alone. When I met my husband, who was serving in the Navy, everything changed. He encouraged me, supported me, and reminded me I was capable. At 40, I finally earned my GED, and I was so proud. From there, I kept going. Now, I’m the first person in my family to earn a college degree—something I never imagined possible. This journey has meant everything to me and proves it’s never too late to start again.Lisa D., BS in Information Systems - Web Development Concentration
I have been on and off the education train, but thanks to my family's encouragement to follow my passions, I have finally earned a degree. Without them, I would still be considering pursuing further education instead of having already done so. They sacrificed time away from me, but understood what it was for.Steven R., AS in Engineering Management Technology
I never thought it was possible to go back to school at 45 years old. I wanted greater things in life, and a college degree was the way to make that happen. All of the teachers and staff members have been great. The teacher that inspired me the most was Richard Sayles. He encouraged me, explained things that I didn't understand, and incorporated his real life experiences into the course. From begining to end he was great. I am continuing my education after this associate's degree. The day after graduation I begin working on my bachelor's degree here at Grantham. I couldn't ask for a better school to accomplish my goal at. Thank you to everyone that made this possible.Karen P., AA in Criminal Justice
I started college education at a traditional brick and mortar college in 1999. I later joined the military and after multiple deployments, my college career stalled as I sought employment and stability. After starting an active-guard position in 2008, I started back to college by attending my first online courses with Grantham University. Then life happened. After a couple of starts and stops, I pushed through the final seven classes to finish my bachelor's degree in July 2025, shortly before my retirement from the military. UA Grantham helped me secure opportunities for career options post-military.John S., BBA in Business Administration - General Management Concentration
I started my college education 9 months postpartum with my first son. I am now finishing my degree with my first son being 2 years old and my second son being 9 months old. I am super proud of myself for pushing through and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This could not be possible without the amazing student advisor I had Ms. Christine Bittel and the amazing professors who taught me all I know today. Huge shoutout to all faculty members and my classmates for being there every step of the way. UAG I will be back to gain my masters. Till I see and talk to yall again good luck and best to you!Megan D., AAS in Medical Coding and Billing
I started my Criminal Justice degree in my late 20s, balancing night shifts and life’s challenges—including devastating tornadoes in Little Rock. There were moments of doubt, but my mother’s unwavering support and my fiancé’s encouragement kept me going. This journey taught me that no dream has an expiration date. With resilience, sacrifice, and determination, I overcame every obstacle and now proudly stand as a graduate, ready to make a difference in Homeland Security.David S., BA in Criminal Justice - Homeland Security Concentration

I'm blessed to have come this far and continue to move forward with my career. I had long nights and early mornings while taking care of my four children, and two of my children graduated high school in May, so I'm a proud mother of the Class of 2025, and I'm pleased to walk this journey with my children and to share all my accomplishments.Amber L., AAS in Medical Administrative Assistant
My years in college? A crazy mix of working awfully hard, growing personally, and showing nothing but grit. Like so many of us, there were moments when all of those assignments felt like too much, when I couldn't see how I was ever going to balance classes, a job, and life, and when I was filled with doubt about what I was doing. But I was building my future, and I was somehow exceeding my own expectations. That's what got me through. A major motivating force for me was my father who earned his master’s degree just last year. He is an amazing example of what can be accomplished with dedication, discipline, and the age-old mantra of ‘never give up, even when the times get tough.’ This dream has become a reality!Garrett F., BA in Criminal Justice - Homeland Security Concentration
Through war zones, deployments, and the weight of leading others, I never lost sight of a personal mission: earning my degrees. Even while navigating the heartbreak of losing loved ones and supporting my spouse through serious health challenges, I kept going. Balancing military service, family, and academics was not easy—but it was worth it. My Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees helped me advance in rank and, more importantly, allowed me to lead by example for my children. This achievement stands as a reminder: no matter the obstacles, perseverance turns goals into reality.Alfred C., MBA in Information Management
Throughout my time at UA Grantham, I’ve been dedicated to serving others. I founded Apex Medical Billing and Coding LLC, an online school and job placement program helping individuals launch careers in healthcare. I have also created a nonprofit organization, Revive Nevada, that provides water and support to the homeless. In addition, I volunteer at a local food pantry, lead a workplace mentorship program, and organize community cleanups and youth fundraisers. I strive to uplift every person I meet, and UA Grantham has empowered me to serve with purpose and heart.Vickie H., AAS in Medical Coding and Billing

University of Arkansas Grantham was the right choice for earning my Master's degree in leadership. I chose this school because of the flexibility of online learning with the best professors and academic advisors. It was a long journey, but without them, I could not have made it this far. Thank you!Jacqueline T., MS in Leadership
When I first started this journey my daughter was just born, and I have just started my business. Soon after, I also became a single father. So my journey was not easy to say the least. But my daughter was my biggest motivation. I wanted to set an example for her and stick with my studies despite a very busy schedule. What I never realized is how much my studies would end up helping me in my own business, and how most of what I would learn I could directly apply in my day to day life. One of the first major achievements I learned was accounting and I learned how to create, read and analyze my own companies financial sheets. This journey has been nothing short of amazing and educational.Nichita P., BBA in Business Administration

My kids were my greatest motivation. They pushed me, whether they knew it or not, to keep moving forward even when I felt overwhelmed, exhausted, or uncertain. Balancing full-time parenting with rigorous academic demands wasn’t easy. There were sleepless nights, missed events, and countless moments when giving up seemed like the easier option. But I reminded myself that I wasn't just doing this for me, I was doing it for them. I wanted to show my children that no matter your circumstances, your dreams are valid and achievable with hard work and determination.Brandi W., MHA in Healthcare Administration
Because of positions I've held at the top levels of state government, some people assumed and often inquired about what my degree was in due to my commitment to protect children from abuse and women in domestic violence situations. My passion for my career choice came not from educational endeavors, but personal life experiences. Drafting memos, providing governor briefings and leading transformational focus groups in state government, was one of life's greatest honors. Being a voice for our state's most vulnerable is a privilege. Even soo, something always lingered. Obtaining my degree wasn't about prestige or access, it was about a lifetime of learning to better affect societal change.Phyllis B., BA in Criminal Justice

One particularly tough moment was when I faced a major project with a tight deadline. I reached out to my professor, who encouraged me to break it down into manageable tasks. This degree has been a long journey of 10 years to complete. I started this journey at Baylor University, Waco, Texas then transitioned to MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN and now is ending here at Grantham University. I’ve experienced a complete life change during this time including growing a family and several military challenges. Finally, I can say I am the first person in my family to complete a higher education outside of my wife who has her masters. I’m proud to say this chapter in my life is completed.Phillip J., BA in Multidisciplinary Studies
Honestly, The person who helped me push through the most is my Loving wife Peggy, she has backed me the whole way while we have been working full time and encouraging me to keep pushing to get school done. I adore her and thank you endlessly for helping me.Michael P., AS in Computer Science

I began my journey in 2008 when I joined the Coast Guard. I navigated the challenges of military life while balancing work and education, often at sea with limited internet access. Despite personal hardships, including the loss of my father, I refused to quit, reminding myself I was halfway there. Many nights were spent saying no to fun and time with loved ones, but I persevered through the sacrifices and moments of doubt. Ultimately, it was all worth it, as I successfully achieved my goals.Kim N., MHA in Healthcare Administration
I debated for years whether I should go back to school to finish my degree or not. I just couldn't see starting all over again, but UA Grantham allowed credits from my old transcripts to count towards my BA in Strategic Communications. I had some hiccups along the way, having to withdraw due to medical reasons, and only taking one course per term when I had a hectic travel schedule at work. Eight weeks go by rather quickly when you manage your time and keep your focus and priorities in check. I don't know why I didn't do this years ago!Sheron R., BA in Strategic Communications
I first enrolled in college in 2013, full of hope and determination. I had four small children and a heart full of dreams. But as any parent knows, life has a way of demanding more than you expect. I made the difficult decision to step away to care for my family. In 2022, my life changed forever when my husband was killed in a car accident. I didn't know how to move forward. Then I saw an ad for UA Grantham, it felt like a quiet nudge-reminding me not to give up. I applied, nervous but determined. There were moments I wanted to quit however the support from my advisor Sarah, instructors and my children kept me going. This degree is more than a personal achievement- it's a tribute to resilience, love, and never giving up on your dreams.Jayme F., AAS in Medical Coding and Billing
I got the worst news I could imagine, I had stage 3 melanoma cancer that had spread to my lymph nodes. Right then I wanted to give up, but instead I took the time I had off from work to go to college not only to better myself but so I could make sure my sons would be able to have a good life. My kids, fiancée, dad and step mom were my biggest fan rooting me on, they believed in me and that made me believe even more in myself. I am so happy to graduate and I will be coming back to get my bachelor degree in the health field. I want to thank all the teachers who understood what I was going through and was there to help me suceed.Candy T., AAS in Medical Administrative Assistant

I started this endeavor in 2019 and during my degree program I have undergone 4 brain surgeries and 2 spinal surgeries. Times were not easy but thanks to people like Lynn Berry in 2025 I have earned my degree!Todd G., BS in Electronics Engineering Technology
I started with 2022 and I told my mother, who is deceased now, that I was going back to school for my degree. She was excited to know it was in the medical field and I wish she was here to celebrate with me. I know she helped me throughout everything I went through during the two years of school. Being a mother of five working in the coding and billing field to this day has helped me realize that anything I put my mind to it I can achieve no matter what I’m going through god will forever make a way for me and anyone who wants to succeed in life. I’m happy that I have a supportive family, fiancé and teachers along with staff and student council at Grantham and I hope to see everyone next semester when I come back for my bachelors.Tangarae K., AAS in Medical Coding and Billing
I want to thank my parents, grandparents, my brother and my wife for instilling the values needed to complete this degree and being great examples to follow.Desmond B., MBA in Business Administration
It is a refreshing feeling to complete my certificate in cybersecurity concepts! I almost gave up when I lost my father in November 2024. I was overwhelmed with grief and defeated, but there is a light at every end of the tunnel! I was able to persevere and re-enroll to complete my program. I completed this program for me and for him, and I hope he's proud of me!Richaundra G., Certificate - Cybersecurity Concepts
My journey has been very interesting to say the least. I was determined to change who I was and learn another way of life. I pushed myself everyday to complete assignments to keep going and even through many bumps in the road. In this journey I have had a son in law pass, taken on my grandchildren to raise and been through bump after bump. I made a promise to my service dog that we would do this. I lost her in sept. but I kept pushing and worked hard to receive this.Pamela M., MS in Leadership
My time at Grantham was an amazing experience. As someone who worked throughout the duration of my degree, the flexibility of online learning was essential. The instructors here at Grantham did an excellent job organizing the courses to make the material both accessible and aligned with current industry standards. As a computer science major, I was initially concerned that the coursework might rely on outdated frameworks, especially if it was textbook based. Thankfully, every class provided relevant, up-to-date content reflecting modern technologies.Cory F., BS in Computer Science
The fact that Sara Phillips would remind me that my work would be due when I had fallen behind was a big help throughout the past couple years. I appreciated that very much. Adam Stone also did a great job motivating me along the way as well, and provided a much needed upgrade for a computer.Kaila G., AS in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology
This is a great accomplishment for me, as due to many obstacles in my life, I finally decided to work towards my degree.Eugenia W., AA in Business Administration and Management
This process was admittedly humbling; the academic challenges helped me find my intellectual ceiling and I'm not sure how I feel about it because it is lower than I had thought prior to studying all of these topics. In addition to the busyness of school, welcoming our third child, finding multiple leaps in employment, serving in the National Guard, and other life obligations, being at the end of this road is certainly cause of introspection and it makes me curious to see what is next in my life with this achievement complete.Cyre S., BS in Electronics Engineering Technology
Throughout my journey, my children have been my greatest motivators. They inspire me with hope and remind me of my purpose. Whenever I felt overwhelmed or doubted my abilities, I would simply look at their faces to reignite my determination. My little ones have truly been my guiding light. Even when the path was challenging, I refused to let negative thoughts consume me. Instead, I focused on what truly matters: their future and well-being. Reflecting on how far I’ve come fills me with an immense sense of pride!Lamesha M., AAS in Medical Administrative Assistant
Working at the MEPS leaves me little room to accomplish my studies but through determination and a promise I made to my parents to achieve my associates, bachelors and now masters is pricelessTerry J., MS in Leadership

As my advisor throughout my two year academic journey at UA Grantham, Sarah Steger has been a constant source of support, encouragement, and wisdom. There were times during her check-in calls I had only five minutes or needed an hour to work through a challenge, Sarah always made time or made sure I knew she was available should I need her. Her ability to meet me where I was, showed her genuine dedication to student success. She listened without judgement, offered thoughtful guidance, and consistently reminded me that I was capable of reaching my goals. A course (Basic Procedure Coding Systems) that is essential to earning a degree in Medical Coding and Billing, Michelle Chappell's dedication made all the difference. She held optional weekly Zoom meetings that provided critical support and clarity, especially for students like me who are visual learners. These meetings helped break down complex concepts and ensured a welcoming space for questions and discussion. Her passion for teaching and genuine care for our success was clear in everything she did. She continuously encouraged us and reminded us not to give up, even when we felt like we would never learn this intricate system. What truly made a difference, though, was her empathy as she reminded us to give ourselves grace, reassuring us it was ok to struggle as we are just being introduced to something that can seem so overwhelming. Her empathy in recognizing that many of us were working, raising a family, and trying to be the best student and the challenges that came along made us feel understood. Her belief in our potential kept us motivated, even during the most challenging parts of the course. Instructor Chappell demonstrates what it means to be an outstanding educator, and her efforts have made lasting impact on our learning and growth in our future careers. Thank you Instructor Chappell for walking alongside, helping us reach this milestone.Jayme F., AAS in Medical Coding and Billing
